Does potassium maintain a heart healthy?

Potassium is an indispensable mineral that supports the electrical activity of cells and plays an important role in the diet. By adopting a balanced diet that contains fruits, vegetables and protein we can give the body this element it needs. Potassium can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and contribute to the transmission of oxygen to the brain. Moreover, it controls the contraction of the muscles and the functioning of the nerves, helping to regulate blood pressure. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has established that the recommended daily dose for the adult human body is 3500 mg of potassium.

"The proper functioning of the body starts from the food choices we make every day. If we want to lead a balanced and healthy life, it is essential that we make a plan that is right for the personal needs that are integrated into our daily program. Between these elections we must also pay attention to potassium sources. Among the most accessible foods that contain this mineral are avocado, melon, spinach, orange juice and beer, consumed in moderate quantities. Moreover, there is a study by Romanian researchers that confirms that moderately consumed beer can have a beneficial effect on heart health and blood vessels. "Said Dr. Corina Zugravu, President of the Center for Studies on Beer, Health and Nutrition.

Adopting an active and healthy lifestyle can prevent cardiovascular diseases. The relationship between beer and heart health is a subject that has been researched over time, including in Romania. The results from the study conducted by Dr. Marina OČ›elea, Evaluation of the effect of beer consumption on hemostasis in healthy subjects ”, conducted even under the aegis of the Center for Studies on Beer, Health and Nutrition, reconfirmed that moderately consumed beer may contribute to lowering the incidence cardiovascular diseases, influencing the factors involved in maintaining the blood-coagulant blood balance.

Avocado is a potassium-rich fruit and can be consumed as such, or added to salads or sandwiches, thus providing approximately 690 mg of potassium. Of course, avocado comes with a lot of vitamins: A, C, B1, B2, B3, B6 and minerals such as magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and iron. Being also rich in monounsaturated healthy fats, fruit originating in Mexico can also help lower cholesterol levels.

Watermelon: With a content of about 90% water, its consumption is extremely popular especially on summer days, when our body feels much more need for hydration. The amount of postassium it contains, approximately 640 mg, contributes to the regulation of blood pressure.

Another source of potassium is spinach, which brings a lot of benefits to the body, especially for the eyes, due to lutein and zeaxanthin, to the bones, due to vitamin K and also contributes to the strengthening of immunity due to the high vitamin A content. Potassium and low sodium content, spinach helps maintain blood pressure at normal levels.

We can also find potassium in drinks, such as fresh orange juice or moderately consumed beer.

Fresh orange juice is eaten especially at breakfast and offers a lot of benefits, being rich in vitamin C, has no fat and no cholesterol. Due to the content of hesperidin, an antioxidant found in citrus fruits, it can improve diastolic blood pressure.

Beer is a food drink made from 100% natural ingredients: water, hops, cereals and yeast, which provide the body with vitamins and minerals needed to ensure its optimal functioning. One of the minerals that we find in the composition of beer is potassium, known for supporting cardiac activity.

Thanks to these natural ingredients in the composition, beer can be successfully integrated into a healthy lifestyle when consumed in moderate quantities and also benefits the body.
